Incident Report Description

Toronto Star article “Ontario Place, a fading Toronto icon, is likely going to be torn down and replaced by a newer version to restore the park to its former glory.
The provincial Crown corporation has put out a formal request for ideas to completely redevelop its 39-hectare (96-acre) space along Lake Ontario, which will probably result in the removal of features, such as the once groundbreaking Cinesphere, that have grown tired. “ http://bit.ly/aAufGX
Many debate that is there are other ways of re-energizing the place, without demolishing the unique structures. The geodesic IMAX dome in particular, is an iconic structure that Toronto is known for. While the concept of bridges and PODs stretching across the water is characteristic of the 1970's superstructure trend.

I honestly think that the reason Ontario Place isn't as popular as other amusement parks, is that they don't have enough rides that appeal to older audiences. The architecture is not the problem. They just need a really creative retro-fit that will rejuvenate the place. Spend the money on rides. I can't believe they are actually thinking of tearing down the IMAX dome and the pods. That's what makes the place unique.

I can't help thinking that the people in charge now, were not even born when Ontario Place was booming! If so, they don't know what Ontario Place is even about. Do they really think that the employees have to all go home for supper? It is about atmosphere. In the summer, the weather may just be too hot to be strolling around a park that normally requires an admittance fee and parking. In the Seventies, the place would be packed in the evening when things cool off and all the bands came out. Who wants to drink in the daytime when the best is yet to come after dark? Young people go out when it's late. Young like we were. So many looking for work,... Extend the hours and let everyone know it's the place to be!
